Giacolone recorded season-high 14 saves in win over UNC

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior goaltender Samantha Giacolone has been named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning (April 2).

Giacolone, who earned the same honor on March 19, recorded a season-best 14 saves in Notre Dame’s 9-7 victory over North Carolina on Sunday, March 31.

She currently leads the nation with a goals-against average of 6.35 and is second in the country with a save percentage of .555, which also tops the ACC. Giacolone has notched at least 10 saves in three of her last four games dating back to March 16 at Virginia.

Giacolone also ranks second in Irish history in goals-against average (9.30), wins (43) and minutes played (3,803).
