Notre Dame men’s tennis senior All-American and top-seeded Ryan Sachire and sophomore Javier Taborga each won a pair of singles matches to up a quarterfinal match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region VI championships at Wisconsin. Sachire and Taborga will meet on Sunday morning for a spot in the semifinals, to be played later on Sunday. The singles final will be played on Monday. Sachire beat Minnesota’s Harsh Mankad 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6) in the third round and then beat Ball State’s 16th-seeded Ryan Baxter 6-4, 6-2.

Unseeded Taborga beat Indiana’s 13th-seeded Ian Arons 6-0, 6-4 and Minnesota’s seventh-seeded Tyson Parry 6-4, 6-4. Taborga also upset Northwestern’s Joost Hol in the second round, beating three seeded players on his way to the quarterfinals. Sophomore Casey Smith beat Illinois’ sixth-seeded Jeff Laski 6-3, 6-3 in the third round before falling 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 to DePaul’s 15th-seeded John Cheregi in the fourth round.

Tenth-seeded Irish junior Matt Daly dropped his third round match 6-2, 6-3 to Michigan State’s unseeded Ken Kigongo, and freshman Andrew Laflin lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Minnesota’s 14th-seeded Thomas Haug. Sachire and Trent Miller lost their second-round doubles match 8-6 to Ohio State’s Carlson and Porter and Taborga and Aaron Talarico lost 8-6 to Indiana’s Rakvica and Smiley.
