NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame sophomore Ryan Sachire will play in the singles tournament at the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship in Athens, Ga. Sachire will be making his second-straight appearance in the 64-player event, which begins on May 27. In addition, the Notre Dame duo of senior Jakub Pietrowski and junior Brian Patterson will play in the 32-team doubles championship.
Sachire, who advanced to the second round of last year’s event, is currently ranked No. 13 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and has a 32-12 record in single this season. Sachire was the top seed from the Midwest region to be named the tournament joining Marc Silva and Alex Witt of Northwestern and Tom Chicoine of Minnesota. The singles event consists of four automatic picks from eight national regions plus 32 at-large picks.
Pietrowski and Patterson are making their second-straight trip to the doubles tournament and were the top pick from the Midwest region. They are ranked No. 21 in the country by the ITA. That tournament consists of two teams from each of the eight regions and 16 at-large picks.
