Ryan Humphrey and Charles Thomas Pick Up Top Awards At Men's Basketball Banquet

Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior forward Ryan Humphrey (Tulsa, Okla.) is the recipient of the Notre Dame National Monogram Club MVP Award and senior guard Charles Thomas (Flint, Mich.) is the winner of the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete Award. The awards were presented at the annual Men’s Basketball Banquet honoring the 2001-02 Irish team on Wednesday evening.

Humphrey led Notre Dame in scoring and rebounding in 2001-02 as he averaged 18.9 points and 10.9 rebounds. He scored in double figures in 30 of the 31 games he played and netted 20-plus points on 13 occasions. Humphrey , a first-team all-BIG EAST selection, registered 22 double-doubles, 11 of those came in the final 11 games of the season. He set the Notre Dame single-season blocked shots mark with 87 and his two-year career average of 2.81 blocked shots per game also is a new Irish career record. Humphrey played 60 career games at Notre Dame and scored 997 points (16.6) and grabbed 597 rebounds (9.95).

Thomas was a four-year member of the Irish men’s basketball team as a walk-on and was a awarded a full scholarship for his final semester at Notre Dame. Enrolled in the College of Science with a major in science business, he has earned Dean’s List recognition on three occasions and owns a 3.392 grade point average. Thomas played in 24 games during his four-year career and earned two monograms.

In addition to the two awards, framed jersey were presented to the five Irish seniors on this year’s squad – David Graves (Lexington, Ky.), Humphrey, Harold Swanagan (Hopkinsville, Ky.), Thomas and Danny White (Granger, Ind.).
