Sept. 10, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Ryan Hoff (Baldwin, Md./Dulaney), a 2009 Notre Dame graduate and former Irish All-American, was selected by the Rochester (N.Y.) Knighthawks in the third round of the 2009 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft, which was held Wednesday. Hoff was the 34th overall selection in the draft.

Entering the draft, Hoff was ranked 31st on the NLL Insider Hot 50 list. Hoff earned All-America honors for the second straight season in 2009 as he was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America third team. The attackman led the Irish in goals for the third straight season as he notched 32 tallies. He was a key reason why the Notre Dame offense ranked in the top 10 nationally this past season by averaging 11 goals a game.

Hoff produced nine multiple-goal games during his senior campaign, including a six-goal effort against Ohio State in the title game of the GWLL tournament. Hoff scored three or more goals in a game five times on the season. He notched a six-point effort on five goals and an assist in a 13-7 win over Vermont and registered a hat trick in a 9-7 win over No. 3 North Carolina. Hoff concluded his career ranked second on Notre Dame’s all-time career goals list with 134. The three-time All-GWLL first-team selection played in a program-record 63 games during his career.

In May, Hoff was taken by the Chicago Machine in the third round (17th overall selection) in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft.

The Knighthawks selected defenseman Sid Smith from Syracuse with the first overall pick in Wednesday’s NLL Draft. The draft consisted of six rounds and 62 total picks.

The NLL will begin its 24th season of professional indoor lacrosse on Friday, January 8. The regular season will consist of 16 weekends of play, beginning on January 8 concluding on Saturday, April 24.
