Russell Carter Selected Tri-Captain

Jan. 3, 2007

Notre Dame, Ind. – Senior Russell Carter (Paulsboro, N.J.) has been named captain for the remainder of the 2006-07 men’s basketball season, effective immediately. Carter will join classmate Colin Falls and junior Rob Kurz as a tri-captain for the remainder of the season.

“Russell was voted captain by his teammates and this is very deserving and fitting,” Irish head coach Mike Brey says. “His work on and off the court merits this recognition from his teammates. Russell has and will continue to be a key part of our success this season. I am very proud of what he has accomplished during his career here at Notre Dame.”

Carter leads the Irish with a 17.8 scoring average and is the only Irish player who has scored in double figures in all 13 games. He has topped the 20-point mark on six occasions and has been the leading scorer on six occasions. He also is averaging 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals.

He has been voted BIG EAST Player of the Week once this season and has been named to the league’s Honor Roll twice.
