Runner-Up Finish For Shivers Leads Irish On Day One At ASU Sun Angel Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. – With a limited schedule of events comprising its first day of competition, the University of Notre Dame track and field team enjoyed a solid start at the 37th annual Sun Angel Track Classic, hosted by Arizona State, on Friday at Sun Angel Stadium.

In the men’s hammer throw, Notre Dame’s Anthony Shivers notched a top distance of 58.37m on his final attempt to take second place in flight two behind Air Force’s Spencer Baldwin (60.17m). Shivers’ throw ultimately earned runner-up honors in the final standings of the event behind Baldwin.

Nick Hauser represented the Irish in the premiere men’s hammer throw on Friday, logging a top throw of 60.73m for a fifth-place finish. Hauser’s scoring attempt was also made on his sixth and final throw.

The second day of senior level events at the Sun Angel Track Classic is set to begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. (MT). Along with Shivers and Hauser, 14 other Notre Dame student-athletes will compete in a variety of events throughout the remainder of the meet weekend.
