Rowing Advances All Five Boats to ACC Grand Finals

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 19 Notre Dame’s rowing team qualified for each of Saturday’s five grand final races during the qualifying rounds of the ACC Rowing Championship on Friday evening on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. The Irish joined Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse and Clemson is placing an entry into all five of Saturday’s grand finals.

Notre Dame’s first varsity eight placed second in its heat with coxswain Reilly Kearney, Carlee Beckler, Sarah Kappers, Hilary Shinnick, Katie Skorcz, University valedictorian Anna Kottkamp, Ailish Sheehan, Alexis Olson and Joanna Mulvey working together for a time of 6:18.7.

The Irish second varsity eight came in second in its heat as coxswain Alex Techar, Elizabeth Gilbert, Rose Doerfler, Ellen Gleadow, Catherine Wagner, Sarah Russel, Elizabeth Kelley, Gretchen Bruggeman and Madeline Loper completed the race in 6:30.0.

Notre Dame’s first varsity four clocked a time of 7:12.4 as coxswain Jill Ryan, Bailey Amenabar, Elizabeth Walter, Madelynn Conlin and Treasa O’Tighearnaigh placed second in the second heat.

In the second varsity four, coxswain Mikaela Prego, Megan McKeon, Katherine Lumetta, Emily Horton and Meredith Swartz placed second in a time of 7:20.8.

The third varsity eight for Notre Dame also placed second in a heat as coxswain Savannah Ryder, Christine McGough, Christine Schindele-Murayama, Kate Trankina, Erin Dolan, Bridget Adam, Moira Hamilton, Clare Scantling and Lauren Matchett finished the race in 6:42.7.

The Irish will vie for the ACC championship on Saturday morning on Lake Hartwell with the Notre Dame action beginning at 8:15 a.m. EDT with the third varsity eight grand final. The day’s events will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
