Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame juniors Becky Luckett and Ashlee Warren were named to the USRowing Collegiate Honor Roll, marking the first time in history an Irish rower has received such distinction. Luckett joined eight other women on the first team, while Warren was one of eight to earn second-team honors.

The USRowing Collegiate Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in both academics and rowing, as well as participated in extracurricular activities. Applicants must be USRowing members, have rowed or coxed in a men’s or women’s priority open or lightweight boat that raced at a league championship, have completed four semesters or six quarters of academic work, and have earned a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Luckett, from Columbus, Ohio, rowed in the third seat of the varsity eight for the Irish in 2001, which placed fifth at the 2001 Lexus Central Sprints, just missing a berth to the NCAA Championships. Luckett also teamed with Warren during the fall season to win pairs races at the Chicago Chase and another against national power Michigan State.

A Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Rowing Scholar-Athlete Award winner, Luckett had a 3.856 grade-point average after two years in the College of Arts and Letters and has been named to the Dean’s List all four semesters she has been at Notre Dame. Luckett is also a member of the Notre Dame Academic Honors Program which pairs student-athletes, who excel at a high level academically, with faculty mentors within the student-athlete’s academic area of interest.

Active in the community, Luckett spent the summer of 2001 volunteering in Kenya. While in Kenya, she taught alcohol education classes. She also spent the fall of 2001 studying abroad in London.

A junior from Gibsonburg, Ohio, Warren earned CRCA National Rowing Scholar-Athlete honors in 2000-01 after posting a 3.505 grade-point average after four semesters in the College of Science. Also a member of the Notre Dame Academic Honors Program, Warren excelled athletically in 2000-01, earning first-team all-Central Region honors. She rowed in the sixth seat of the varsity eight, which finished the season ranked 16th nationally (its highest ranking in the history of the program), this season and posted the best ergometer time on the team at 7:14.30. Warren participated this past summer in the National Youth Sports Program sponsored by the NCAA. She provided positive alternatives to 15 children from inner city South Bend, allowing them to participate in mentally and physically enriching activities for six weeks during the summer.
