Earned all-BIG EAST honors in the 200 medley relay as the Irish quartet placed second in a school-record time of 1:30.04 … clocked a fourth-place finish in the 100 fly at the BIG EAST meet with a seasonbest mark of 48.47 … barely missed out on all-conference honors in the 200 IM with another fourth-place showing in a seasonbest time of 1:50.18 … placed seventh at the BIG EAST meet in the 200 fly with a mark of 1:51.77 … registered his top 200 fly time of the campaign in the prelims at BIG EAST (1:51.01) … posted team-best times in the claimed 17 relay and 10 individual victories during the season … competed at the Dallas Morning News Classic … named to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team … earned a monogram. Qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a ‘B’ cut time of 47.66 in the 100-yard butterfly … also swam the 200 fly and the 200 IM in the national meet … entered the meet seeded 26th in the 100 fly, 34th in the 200 fly and 45th in the 200 IM … he placed 37th in the 200 fly, 39th in the 200 IM and was disqualified from the 100 fly … named team MVP for the second straight season … was the high-point scorer in the BIG EAST Championships with 89.5 points … a major factor in Notre Dame claiming its first-ever BIG EAST title … conference champion in the 100 fly, and the 200 IM … swam the butterfly leg of the first-place 400 medley relay … became first Notre Dame competitor ever to set a BIG EAST Championships record, first tying the 100 fly mark in prelims (48.10) and then bettering that time in the finals (48.06) … all of his season-best times in his main events came at the Notre Dame Invitational in December in Rolfs Aquatic Center, when he helped the Irish to first place … all three of those marks were University, meet, and pool records … swam the anchor leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay that defeated Pittsburgh by .04 seconds in a November meet in the Rolfs Aquatic Center … led team in points with 407.75 (276 individual, 131.75 relay) … registered 14 individual victories and 12 more in relay events. Turned in one of the most impressive rookie campaigns in program history, earning team MVP honors … broke University records in 100 butterfly (48.43) and 200 individual medley (1:49.68) and was part of record relays in the 200 medley (1:30.48) and 200 free (1:21.30) … registered NCAA ‘B’ times in 100 fly and 200 IM … tabbed honorable mention Academic All-America by the College Swim Coaches Association (CSCAA) … scored team-high 64 points in helping Irish to highest-ever point total and second-place team finish at BIG EAST Championships … earned all-conference honors in 200 IM and 100 fly, finishing as BIG EAST runner-up in the latter … ranked among top 75 in Division I in each of his three main events: tied for 53rd in 100 fly, 69th in 200 fly (1:49.44), and 72nd in 200 IM (1:49.68) … also was part of three relays that were among the top 45 nationally: 200 medley (30th), 200 free (35th), and 400 medley (42nd, 3:19.66) … all three of those quartets finished fourth at the BIG EAST meet, with both 200s breaking the University records … team leader in both butterfly events and 200 IM … also ranked fourth on Irish in 100 breaststroke (58.33) and fifth in 50 free (21.29) … posted three fastest times in school history in the 100 fly, as well as six of the top nine for the Irish on the season … also had four of the best six marks in the 200 fly and the two best in the 200 IM … finished second on team in points scored with 407.75 … broke 100 fly school record in qualifying second with NCAA ‘B’ time of 48.45 at BIG EAST meet before improving upon that time to tie for second place (with West Virginia’s Pedro Pinto) in the final, just 0.03 seconds behind the champion, Connecticut senior Dustin Rogers … prior to that, no Irish swimmer had ever been in the top six at the BIG EAST meet in the 100 fly … also was the top returning swimmer in the conference in the 200 IM, in which he was the only competitor to post an NCAA ‘B’ cut in prelims, coming in as the top qualifier with a school record … slipped to third in finals, but still improved eight spots from his seeding (11th) … qualified 10th in 200 fly, but came back to beat field by three seconds in taking ninth and posting time that would have been third had he been in the championship final … runner-up to Pinto in the 100 fly at the Notre Dame Invitational … took fourth in the 200 IM and swam butterfly leg on firstplace 200 free and 200 medley relays … the 200 medley relay set a meet record (1:31.62) … registered 15 dual-meet race victories … was beaten just once in the 100 butterfly … highlights included winning both butterfly events against both #17 Pittsburgh and #19 BYU, as well as a 100 fly triumph vs. North Carolina (23rd at NCAAs) … posted secondfastest time in the conference in the 100 fly during the regular season … qualified for BIG EAST meet in team-high six events, also posting season-best time of 47.03 in the 100 free … swam second leg of 400 butterfly relay that set a meet record at the Dennis Stark Relays … became just third freshman ever to be tabbed team MVP.
