AS A JUNIOR: Key lefthanded setup pitcher who played a role in freshman closer Kyle Weiland’s 16-save season (the 3rd-most saves in the nation during the ’06 season) … logged 27 appearances (12th-most in Notre Dame history) … ranked 2nd on the 2006 staff in ERA (2.17), low opponent batting average (.208) and appearances (27), plus 3rd in games finished (6) … only three pitchers in the BIG EAST logged more appearances: South Florida’s Chase Lirette (36), Louisville’s Griffin Bailey (34) and Weiland (30) …compiled nearly a 2.5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (17/7), with his steady control including just 3 hit batters, a lone wild pitch and no home runs allowed … went 3-1 in his official decisions while adding a save … limited opponents to a .250 leadoff on-base percentage and .217 batting with runners on base (both 2nd-best on the staff), also owning the 3rd-best opponent 2-out batting avg.
