Bio

Haley Scott DeMaria was introduced as the 67th president of the Notre Dame Monogram Club on April 20, 2013. She held that position for two years and now is the Club’s Immediate Past President.
 
Employment Experience – Inspirational speaker who is currently involved in a movie project based on her book about her recovery from serious back injury … was assistant dean of students at Xavier College Prep School in Phoenix from 1996-2000, also serving as a history teacher and assistant swimming coach … a founding member of the Xavier College Prep Foundation Board and was honored with the Woman of Courage award for being a role model to Xavier students.
 
Education – bachelor’s from Notre Dame in history (`95); masters of arts in teaching from USC (’10)
 
Board Service – chair of ND Women Connect initiative in the Notre Dame Club of Washington, DC, also involved in many parish activities, including teaching religious education, and founding and organizing a small Christian community group for women to discuss weekly mass readings and how they are applicable to their lives as wives and mothers …sponsor family for Midshipmen from the U. S. Naval Academy, formerly a member of the Phoenix and Philadelphia chapters of the Junior League, which focused on outreach to underprivileged women and children.
 
Athletic Achievements – four-year Arizona state swimming champion and prep All-American and Academic All-American … three-year member of Irish swimming and diving team (1991-92, `93-95), earning monogram in `91-92 … suffered serious back injury in 1992 in bus accident returning from an away meet … facing a life of paralysis, underwent six back operations, several physical setbacks, and emotional hardships to return to compete for the Irish again 21 months later.
 
Alumni Club Involvement – current member of the Notre Dame Club of Maryland (since 2004) and the Notre Dame Club of Washington (DC), after being formerly active with the ND Clubs of Phoenix (1996-2000) and Philadelphia (2000-04).
 
Family – husband Jamie DeMaria (ND student manager `95), sons James (born 2002) and Edward (born `03)
