South Africa has been full of traveling, museums, animals, delicious food, and beautiful views. We spent a few days in Johannesburg and then flew to Cape Town. Yesterday in Cape Town, we got to go on a boat to view the mountains, see the sea lions, and walk along the beach. The water was so clear, the sand was soft and white, and the sounds were so peaceful. There were a lot of street vendors and performers, combined with the soft sound of the ocean. I loved it.

Keep in mind, it is winter here, so it’s usually a bit chilly, but the weather in Cape Town has been sunny and 70-degrees. I’ve enjoyed viewing a different culture and learning about their history because we aren’t taught much about it throughout school. I’m looking forward to more adventures to come.

During the past few days, I’ve really gotten to appreciate South Africa’s mountainous beauty. We took a ferry ride to Robben Island and learned a lot about what the prisoners went through, and then we drove six hours through the mountainous country to another city.

Today, I got to go caving again and visit an ostrich farm. I even hugged an ostrich… It was strange but really soft. I’ve enjoyed trying a variety of South African cuisine the past few days as well. All the meat is fantastic, especially chicken and ostrich. I also enjoyed “pup,” which is boiled maize with cheese and sauteed vegetables.

Tomorrow, we are heading to an elephant farm. I can’t wait. I am so thankful for the opportunities Notre Dame has given me.
