Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Draws
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. & WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team wrapped up another successful day of the first weekend of fall competition on Saturday with players competing at both the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and the Purdue Fall Invitational.
Irish junior Monica Robinson kicked off her season at the Riviera Tennis Club in the first prequalifying rounds of the All-American Championships singles draw. The No. 101st-ranked Robinson defeated TCU’s Mia King 6-2, 6-4 in first-round play, then went on to beat Memphis’ Anki Wind, 7-5, 6-2. Robinson will advance to the qualifying rounds beginning Monday.
At Purdue’s Schwartz Tennis Center, the Irish picked up more wins in the singles round-robin draws, highlighted by sophomore Allison Miller’s 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 80 Georgiana Patrasc of Mississippi State. Sophomore Brooke Broda also snared a victory — the second of her career — with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Purdue’s Marta Ruedas-Burgos.
In doubles, Mary Closs and Miller fell in the semifinal match to Mississippi State’s Patrasc and Anastasia Rentouli, 6-0.
The Irish will return for the final day of the Purdue Invite, wrapping up singles play beginning at 9 a.m. ET Sunday.
