Rob Globke Named CCHA Rookie Of The Week

Feb. 12, 2001

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has selected Notre Dame freshman center Rob Globke (West Bloomfield, Mich.) as its Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11.

This marks the second time this season that Globke has been named Rookie of the Week as he was also honored for the week ending Oct. 22.

Globke picked up the first three-point game of his career (two goals and one assist) when he figured in all three Irish goals in Notre Dame’s 3-2 win over Bowling Green on Feb. 9. He then added an assist in Notre Dame’s 5-3 win on Feb. 10 to help the Irish keep their CCHA playoff hopes alive.

The two goals scored by Globke tie him for the Irish team lead with 14.

In the 3-2 win, Globke set up Connor Dunlop’s first period power play goal to give the Irish a 1-0 lead. He followed that with an unassisted breakaway goal at 16:01 of the second period for a 2-1 Notre Dame advantage.

Globke closed out the best game of his rookie season when he scored the eventual game winner at 12:54 of the third period.

The talented rookie is tied for fourth on the Irish scoring list with 14 goals and six assists for 20 points. He leads Notre Dame with two game-winning goals this season.

His 14 goals are the most by a Notre Dame freshman since the 1984-85 season when Mike McNeill scored 16 and Tom Mooney had 19.

Globke has nine points (7 goals, 2 assists) in 11 games since returning from the World Junior Championships in Moscow where he played with the U.S. Junior National Team. He helped the U.S. team to a 5-2 record and a fifth place finish while scoring a pair of goals.

The Fighting Irish (8-21-5, 5-14-4 in the CCHA) return to action this week with a single game on Fri., Feb. 16 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face the fifth-ranked Michigan Wolverines. Game time is 7:35 p.m.
