HOUSTON, Texas – Notre Dame freshman mens tennis player Casey Smith won a tight 7-6, 6-4 match against sophomore teammate Matt Daly to advance to the finals of the B Flight singles on the second day of the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas. Freshman Andrew Laflin won a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 consolation match against Texas A&Ms Tony Young.

In Flight A singles, senior Andy Warford downed Juan Arambuto 6-4, 7-5 in a consolation match while his brother Luke Warford lost his consolation match 6-1, 6-1 to Texas A&Ms Cody Hubbell.

Freshman Javier Taborga dropped a three-set match 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 to Rices Fabien Giraud in Flight C. Sophomore Mark Overdevest fell 7-6, 6-1 to Rice Rafael Reyes. Taborga and Overdevest will meet in the consolations on Sunday.

In Flight D, freshman Aaron Talarico beat Baylors Fanda Stejskal 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the finals while junior Rob Warn and sophomore Ashok Raju won consolation matches.

In A doubles, Luke Warford and Daly beat teammates Smith and Taborga 8-6 and will face teammates Andy Warford and Laflin on Sunday. The teams of Raju and Talarico and Warn and Overdevest lost in B doubles.
