Reminiscing on Notre Dame's Championship Weekend

March 10, 2017

March 10, 2017 – Before the NCAA Tournament selection parties begin, lets take one last look at the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

On Sunday, @ndwbb won its 4th straight ACC tournament championship.

I’ve been to numerous ACC Women’s Basketball tournaments, dating back to my days at Virginia Tech, and although I do miss the enormous host hotel that was right next to the Four Seasons at Town Centre mall, being in Myrtle Beach wasn’t half bad.

Of course the obvious difference was the size of the venue, but in my opinion the HTC Center was perfect for women’s basketball. While the Greensboro Coliseum has a lot of history with ACC Basketball, the women’s basketball tournament always felt empty even though they closed off the upper levels of the arena with curtains. I’m sure being near the beach helped ticket sales too but by the semi-final and final game this year, it was a packed house in Myrtle Beach and it got LOUD.

Besides the actual games, the overall experience throughout the weekend was entertaining from the rock climbing walls, games and the M.C., engaging with the fans throughout the weekend; I thought the ACC and Coastal Carolina did a great job hosting the tournament.

One thing that stayed the same, the ACC Tournament Champion trophy, which in my opinion is the best conference championship trophy out there. Oh yeah and did I mention it went home with Notre Dame Women’s Basketball for the fourth straight year.

What an accomplishment for the Fighting Irish to win their 4th straight tournament title in a league that had 7 ranked teams in the AP Top 25 going into the tournament.

FOUR IN FOUR YEARS. Congrats @ndwbb on winning your 4th straight @accwbb tournament championship #GoIrish pic.twitter.com/Nd68JxQAp7

With their ticket punched for the Women’s NCAA Tournament and the Fighting Irish predicted to be a No. 1 seed, let’s just say I’m excited for March Madness.
