ATLANTA, Ga. — The University of Notre Dame track & field sprinters and field athletes wrapped up a successful weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational a thet George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta.

Margaret Bamgbose improved on her season best time in the 400 meters by 0.02 seconds with a win in the event in 51.95, strengthening her national third-best time according to TFRRS.com, while Jade Barber won her second 100-meter hurdles event of the season, recording the nation’s best time in the process in 13.04. Both played key parts in Notre Dame’s winning effort in the 4×100-meter relay, along with Kaila Barber and Parker English (44.81). (All national rankings as of April 18, 2015.)

The Irish also notched a win in the 4×400-meter relay, as English, Amber Lalla, Jordan Shead and Bamgbose raced for a time of 3:33.21, good for the nation’s eighth-best time.

For the men, Chris Giesting placed second in the 400 meters in 45.95, just 0.02 seconds off his season-best time. Geisting anchored both the second-place 4×400-meter relay of Eric Ways, Harvey Smith and Alex Groesh (3:07.50) and the same group in the fourth-place 4×100-meter relay (41.21).

In the field, Dominick Padovano placed third in the discus (50.72 meters) while Hunter Holton (2.00 meters) and Nathan Richartz (4,95 meters) placed fourth in the high jump and pole vault, respectively.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A school record fell as the Fighting Irish distance and multi-event athletes completed competition at the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville.

Junior Danielle Aragon shaved 0.05 seconds off the Notre Dame mark in the 1,500 meters, besting Rebecca Tracy’s 2012 benchmarker with a time of 4:13.43.

Carly Loeffel finished fourth in the heptathlon with 5,304 total points, highlighted by a second-place javelin fling of 37.17 meters. The senior moved up a spot from yesterday, when she sat in fifth after four events.

On the men’s side, Brent Swanberg placed seventh in the decathlon (6737 points), while Jake Kildoo finished eighth in the 5,000 meters (14:08.34).
