NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Following a record performance at the Ohio State Invitational this past weekend, the University of Notre Dame women’s swimmer Emma Reaney has been named BIG EAST Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Reaney, who is a seven-time all-BIG EAST honoree and a three-time honorable mention All-American, turned in a historic weekend in Columbus, Ohio, as the sophomore played a role in five school records, notched four NCAA A cuts and one NCAA B cut and won three individual events in helping the Irish to a fifth place finish in an elite field that featured nine ranked squads.
The Lawrence, Kan., won the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast, setting NCAA A cuts and school records in all three. She also set an NCAA A cut as part of the school-record 400 medley relay team and an NCAA B cut and school record in the 400 IM.
Reaney broke former Irish great Samantha Maxwell’s 100 and 200 breast records, former Notre Dame All-American Katie Carroll’s 400 IM record and her own 200 IM record that was set just a year ago. The 400 medley relay team broke a record that was previously set in 2011.
The sophomore is off to an outstanding 2012-13 campaign as she is seventh in the country in the 100 breast (59.38), fourth in the 200 breast (2:07.60), fourth in the 200 IM (1:55.05) and 11th in the 400 IM (4:08.63).
