Rae And Shawel Qualify For 1,500-Meter Finals

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Jeremy Rae and Johnathan Shawel of the University of Notre Dame men’s track and field team qualified for the 1,500-meter finals Thursday at the NCAA Championship at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Maddie Buttinger has completed four events in the heptathlon.

Rae placed fifth in 3:43.35 and Shawel was the ninth-place finisher in 3:44.82, which is a personal best.

Buttinger began the first portion of the heptathlon and finished in 14.84 for 23rd place in the 100-meter hurdles and cleared 1.69m in the high jump to place ninth. In the shot put the junior posted a mark of 12.14m for a sixth-place finish and concluded the day in the 200-meter dash in 25.32 to finish 11th.

Buttinger concludes the heptathlon Friday and begins with the long jump. Rae and Shawel are set to compete in the 1,500-meter finals Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
