Rachel Tanczos Named USTFCCCA National Athlete Of The Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Rachel Tanczos added another honor to her resume today as she was named National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. This is the first time that a female athlete from Notre Dame has been named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.

Tanczos has reset her own program record in the weight throw four times this season, most recently at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Her throw of 23.31m broke her own school record that she set earlier this season at the Music City Challenge. The mark currently ranks first in the country in the weight throw for the 2020 season and places Tanczos 11th all-time in NCAA indoor track and field history in the event.

Tanczos had previously been named ACC Field Performer of the Week three times this season, but this marks the junior’s first time earning National Athlete of the Week honors.

The Irish will host the ACC Championships from Thursday, Feb. 27 to Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Loftus Sports Center on Notre Dame’s campus.
