Pre-Qualifying Concludes For Irish At All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The second day of pre-qualifications has concluded at the St. Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships, with play wrapping up for all three University of Notre Dame men’s tennis players in contention at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Sophomore Guillermo Cabrera fell in the Round of 64, dropping a 6-2, 7-6(2) decision to Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar of Florida State.

In the consolation bracket, sophomore Matt Gamble defeated Florida’s Andres Andrade in three sets.

Junior Alex Lebedev will compete in the singles main draw beginning Thursday. Lebedev earned a wild card draw after winning the ITA Summer National Championship.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
