Notre Dame baseball player Nick Podkul was named the All-ACC Tournament second baseman after the ACC Baseball Championship concluded in Louisville last weekend.

In a pair of games against tournament champion Florida State and regular-season champion Louisville, Podkul went 6-for-10 with two home runs, a double and three RBI while posting a 1.000 fielding percentage.

In a 12 inning loss to eventual champion Florida State in the opening game, Podkul homered twice. He tied the game, 1-1, in the sixth with a solo shot. He homered again in the eighth, cutting the FSU lead to 3-2 before the Irish came back to tie it.

In the season finale against No. 4 Louisville, Pokdul was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

It capped a season in which Podkul started all 58 games, predominantly at second base. He finished third on the team with a .285 average while reaching base at a .381 clip and slugging .439. The sophomore knocked in 20 runs while hitting 15 doubles, two triples and five home runs.

He was joined on the All-Tournament team by Florida State’s Jackson Lueck (MVP), Drew Mendoza, Dylan Busby and Tyler Holton; North Carolina’s Brian Miller, Tyler Lynn and Ashton McGee and Duke’s Chris Proctor. Podkul was the only player from a team that did not advance out of pool play to make the All-Tournament squad.

He is the second Notre Dame player to earn All-ACC Tournament honors in the program’s two trips to the ACC Baseball Championship. In 2015, Kyle Fiala was the All-Tournament third baseman.
