Play Suspended At The Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Notre Dame men’s golf team will have to wait another day to build upon their impressive start at the Mason Rudolph Championship, as Saturday’s second round has been cancelled due to rain. Tournament organizers are hopeful that an 18-hole round will be played on Sunday to serve as the final round of play.

Notre Dame turned in a first round minus-seven 277 at the Mason Rudolph Championship, good for fifth place on the team leaderboard. The Irish had three players break par (71), including senior Doug Fortner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill), who led the way with a minus-four 67 in Friday’s first round. Fortner is tied for second with six other players and trails Jonathan Randolph of Mississippi by three strokes.

Junior Connor Alan-Lee (Solano Beach, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) shot a minus-two 69 in his first round, placing him in a tie for 15th and Sophomore Chris Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), turned in a minus-one 70 to tie for 24th.

The final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship is expected to het underway at 8:00 a.m. (CT) on Sunday morning. The Irish will try and chase down the leaders from Arkansas State, who carded a minus-12 272 in the first round.
