Perkovic Named The ACC Men's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete Of The Year

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The honors keep on coming for Notre Dame men’s lacrosse midfielder Sergio Perkovic, who was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The Irish have now produced each of the last two ACC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients as Matt Landis won the award as a senior following the 2016 season.

Notre Dame placed a total of seven student-athletes on the 2017 All-ACC Men’s Lacrosse Academic Team. Perkovic headlined the list for the Irish and was joined by fellow senior Anthony Marini, juniors John Sexton and Mikey Wynne, sophomores Hugh Crance and Brendan Gleason and freshman Bryan Costabile.

The seven selections to the 2017 All-ACC Men’s Lacrosse Academic Team brings Notre Dame’s four-year total to 27 honorees since joining the league for the 2014 season.

Perkovic started 62 games during his career at Notre Dame. Earlier this season the senior became the seventh player in program history to reach the 100-goal milestone. The midfielder ended his career with 111 goals, which represent the most ever by a Notre Dame midfielder.

Perkovic turned in the greatest goal-scoring performance of his illustrious career in an 11-10 win over Marquette on April 11 during his senior season, as he scored a career-high six goals to will the Irish to victory.

Perkovic was selected as a Senior Class Award first team member and earned a spot as one of the final 25 Tewaaraton Award nominees. The senior is a four-time All-ACC Academic recipient. Perkovic also served on the NCAA Competition Oversight Committee as the lone student representative in 2015-16.

Perkovic led the Irish to an appearance in the NCAA Championship final (2014), the NCAA Championship semifinals (2015) and NCAA Championship quarterfinals (2016) as well as the 2014 ACC tournament title. He was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2014 and 2015.

The recent graduate excelled in the classroom graduating cum laude with a finance degree in the Mendoza College of Business. He has been a member of the Dean’s List on four occasions.

Perkovic was also involved in the community, as the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native served as a mentor at Dickinson Fine Arts Academy, a local middle school, for the last three years. For its efforts the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program was presented the ACC/United Way “Game Changers” Award. Perkovic also took part in the Rosenthal Leadership Academy.

Perkovic was recently selected with the second overall pick in the 2017 MLL draft by the Boston Cannons, marking the highest selection of an Irish student-athlete in program history.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
