University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse midfielder and All-American Sergio Perkovic and Irish goaltender Shane Doss both claimed Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week honors Monday for men’s lacrosse.

Perkovic won the honor on offense, while Doss shared the defensive honor with Ben Williams of Syracuse.

Perkovic, a junior from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, accounted for four goals Saturday as the top-rated Irish won their 2016 season opener at the Cobb County Classic (in Kennesaw, Georgia) by a 12-7 count over 13th-ranked Georgetown.

He scored Notre Dame’s first goal less than two minutes in and added a second before the first period concluded to give the Irish a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter. Perkovic added a third goal late in the third period and a fourth (man up) in the fourth period to lead Irish goal scorers in Notre Dame’s win against the Hoyas. He connected on four of his 11 shots and had one ground ball.

Doss, a junior from Glen Ridge, New Jersey, played lights-out early in Notre Dame’s opener, making six first-period saves to enable the Irish to break out to a 4-0 advantage after the first period. He finished with 14 saves in the Irish win, Notre Dame’s 14th straight opening-day victory.

After one week in the 2016 Notre Dame regular season, Perkovic ranks fifth nationally in goals per game (4.0). Doss stands fifth nationally in save percentage (.667), ninth in saves per game (14.0) and 13th in goals-against average (7.0).

The Irish, rated atop the Inside Lacrosse (media) and Lacrosse magazine polls released today, continue their 2016 schedule this week with home games at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Bellarmine and at 2 p.m. Saturday against Detroit.
