NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After helping the No. 8/9 University of Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team held Stanford to just three second half goals in a 12-10 win over the Cardinal Saturday, freshman Stephanie Peragallo has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Peragallo, who tallied four ground balls and two caused turnovers in her first collegiate game, led the Irish defense all game as they limited the Cardinal to just three second half goals as Notre Dame rallied from a 7-2 halftime deficit to earn a hard-fought 12-10 victory.

With the win the Irish improved to 15-2 all-time in season-opening games.

The Hauppauge, N.Y., native and her Irish teammates open the home portion of their schedule at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 when they welcome in No. 13/20 Ohio State to Arlotta Stadium or Loftus Sports Center depending on weather conditions.
