Nov. 6, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Freshman midfielder Patrick Hodan has earned national honors for his two-goal, one-assist performance in Notre Dame’s 4-2 comeback win at Syracuse on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship.

Hodan (Brookfield, Wis./Marquette University High School) was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week and to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

With Notre Dame trailing Syracuse 2-0 in the second half, Hodan sliced the deficit to one in the 63rd minute and then assisted on Kyle Richard’s equalizer just 19 seconds later. The rookie put the Irish up 3-2 in the 77th minute. The five points were a career-high total for Hodan.

The freshman has played in every match this season and has 17 points on six goals and five assists. All of those figures rank second among Fighting Irish players this season and they are the most goals and points for a Notre Dame freshman since the 1999 season. Hodan is a key reason why the Notre Dame offense currently ranks fourth nationally in goals scored with 44.

The fifth-ranked Fighting Irish (14-3-1) will face No. 8 Connecticut (15-2-1) Friday in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The match is slated for 7:30 p.m. (ET) at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The game can be seen live on CBS Sports Network.
