Omar And Quinton Named Captains For 2021 Season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame’s McFarland Family Head Men’s Soccer Coach Chad Riley has named seniors Mohamed Omar and Philip Quinton captains heading into the 2021 campaign.

“I am thrilled to announce Mohamed Omar and Philip Quinton as our captains for the 2021 season,” said Riley. “They have gained a great deal of experience over the years and I know they will serve as excellent leaders of this year’s team.”

Despite missing the second half of last season with an injury, Omar has racked up 46 appearances for the Irish over the past three seasons as a defensive midfielder. The Toronto, Ontario native has scored two goals and added two assists in his career and has played an integral role in the team’s defense.

Quinton has been a mainstay in Notre Dame’s defense over the past three seasons, playing in 34 matches. The 6-foot-6 center back has anchored the Irish back line the last two seasons. Quinton has also managed to record two assists in his collegiate career.

The Irish get the regular season underway at the end of August, as they renew their rivalry with Indiana on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. ET at Alumni Stadium for the annual Berticelli Memorial Game.
