O'Leary Named HCA Player Of The Month

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior forward Mike O’Leary has been named the Hockey Commissioners Association’s Player of the Month (October) the organization announced on Friday morning.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native led the Irish to a perfect 4-0-0 record in October while sharing the national lead in points per game (2.75) and assists per game (1.75) with linemate Cal Burke. O’Leary tallied multiple points in all four games to finish the month with four goals, seven assists and 11 points, while notching a point on the game-winning goal in three out of four contests.

O’Leary opened the season with five assists in a series sweep of Air Force on Oct. 11 and 13. The senior set up the game-winning goal in both contests. Closing out the month against Lake Superior State, O’Leary tallied a pair of multi-goal games, including the game-winning goal in the series finale on Oct. 26. He finished both games with identical stat lines of two goals and one assist, which earned him Big Ten First Star of the Week honors.

O’Leary went 49-26 in the faceoff circle in October, with his .653 faceoff percentage ranking fourth in the nation among players who took at least 20 draws and second among those who took at least 50 faceoffs.

O’Leary and the fifth-ranked Irish open weekend home series tonight (Nov. 8) against No. 8/9 Ohio State. Friday’s game (8 p.m.) will be televised by NBCSN, while Saturday’s game will be televised on SNY. Both games will also be streamed via NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App.
