Duo combined for 13 points in weekend sweep of Lake Superior State

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior forwards Mike O’Leary and Cal Burke were named the Big Ten’s First and Second Stars of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning (Oct. 29).

O’Leary collected two goals and an assist in each of Notre Dame’s victories over Lake Superior State last weekend. The Halifax, Nova Scotia, native has started the season with four straight multi-point contests and, dating back to last season, now has 27 points (8G, 19A) in his last 23 games played.

Burke, the team’s captain, had a four-point (1G, 3A) outing on Friday before collecting a goal and two assists in Saturday’s victory over the Lakers. Like O’Leary, Burke has opened the season with four consecutive multi-point efforts and has scored a goal in each of Notre Dame’s four wins.

It was the first Star of the Week honor for O’Leary and marked Burke’s second career honor, having been named the Third Star of the Week on Dec. 12, 2017 after posting a hat trick against Wisconsin.
