Ogunbowale Named to Wooden Award National Ballot

March 5, 2018

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A Naismith Trophy Semifinalist, an Ann Meyers Drysdale Award finalist and now a Wooden Award National Ballot honoree – Notre Dame junior guard Arike Ogunbowale continues to stockpile the accolades as the postseason gets underway.

Chosen by a poll of national college basketball, Ogunbowale is recognized as one of the top-15 NCAA Division I women’s basketball players in the country and a frontrunner for not only the Wooden Award, but also the Wooden Award All America team.

Voting will open prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight, while the winner of the 2018 John R. Wooden Award will be presented during the ESPN College Basketball Awards on Friday, April 6, 2018.

Ogunbowale ranks top-25 nationally in both total field goals made (240) and points per game (20.2) as the latter continues to lead the ACC in overall games. The junior guard has helped the Irish to a 29-3 record and a nation-leading nine-ranked victories, all against the No. 1 strength of schedule, while achieving the No. 1 RPI.

Ogunbowale and the rest of the Irish will await their NCAA Tournament seeding on Monday, March 12, on the ESPN Selection Show at 7 p.m. ET.
