Ogunbowale Named ACC Player of the Week

Jan. 22, 2018

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced Notre Dame junior guard Arike Ogunbowale as its Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. The Milwaukee native averaged 25.0 points per game in wins over No. 6 Tennessee and Clemson. The weekly conference honor is the first for Ogunbowale this season and marks the second of her career.

As a direct result, Ogunbowale became eligible for voting for the USBWA’s Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week, in which the junior later won as well on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Ogunbowale spearheaded the largest comeback in program history last Thursday, rallying the Irish down 23 points to knock off No. 6 Tennessee, 84-70. The junior recorded a game high 27 points on 9-of-20 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three, to go along with her eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

In addition, Ogunbowale scored 13 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter alone, marking the fifth time this season the junior has totaled double-digit points in the final period.

Ogunbowale followed that performance with yet another game high 23 points vs. Clemson, marking her 14th game of 20-plus points this season, which continues to lead all players in the ACC.

Overall, Ogunbowale ranks second in the league in points per game with 20.3, which also ranks 27th nationally.

Ogunbowale and the rest of the Irish return to action in Pittsburgh on Thursday, Jan. 25, for a 7 p.m. ET contest on ACCN Extra.
