O'Tighearnaigh ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

University of Notre Dame graduated senior rower Treasa O’Tighearnaigh was named the named the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the 62-person All-ACC Academic Rowing Team, as announced by the conference on Thursday, June  28, 2018.

 

O’Tighearnaigh, a senior from Powell, Ohio, who majored in Biological Sciences and Economics, rowed in the seven seat of Notre Dame’s First Varsity Eight crew, which placed fifth at the ACC Championships. A first-team All-ACC selection, she becomes the second Notre Dame rower to be named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Notre Dame Class of 2015 Valedictorian Anna Kottkamp (2014 and 2015).

O’Tighearnaigh also was named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team and was a CRCA Scholar-Athlete selection this season for the third time in her career in 2017-18.

Notre Dame landed seven selections on the All-ACC Academic Team as well – a group selected from a pool of 286 nominees, the most in league history. The nine ACC schools that sponsor Rowing averaged 31.7 nominees each.

 

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.

Graduated senior Reilly Kearney, coxswain for the Irish’s First Varsity Eight crew from San Mateo, California, was named to the All-ACC Academic team for the fourth time.
