NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday that Irish freshman Yared Nuguse has been named Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week.

The honor follows Nuguse’s first-place individual finish at the Crusader Open 6,000m race on Friday. The Louisville, Ky., native recorded a time of 18:09.3 in his collegiate debut.

Nuguse, the reigning Kentucky Cross Country State Champion, led the Irish men’s squad to its second straight perfect score at the Crusader Open. Notre Dame defeated the likes of Purdue, Valparaiso and IUFW at Sunset Hill Farm County Park (Valparaiso).

Nuguse and the Irish return to action on Sept. 15, when they host the National Catholic Invitational at Burke Golf Course. Admission is free and open to the public.
