EUGENE, Ore. – Yared Nuguse wrote another chapter in his storied Notre Dame career late Friday night, winning the 1,500m race in a time of 3:35.96 at the Oregon Twilight meet at the historic Hayward Field.
Nuguse used his patented kick to chase down Oregon’s Cooper Teare on the final lap and pass him in a photo finish, recording the win by .01 seconds to add another dramatic finish in a big race to his career.
The time of 3:35.96 is the best time by any American at any level in 2021 in an outdoor 1,500m race. The mark also sets the Notre Dame record, ACC record and Oregon Twilight meet record. Nuguse now has the top time in the country in the 1,500m at the NCAA level.
Nuguse and the Irish will compete at the ACC Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina next weekend from May 13-15.
