Nuguse Breaks 18-Year-Old Collegiate Record

BOSTON, Mass. – The Notre Dame track and field team traveled to the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on February 12.

 

The Irish were represented by Yared Nuguse, Dylan Jacobs, Matthew Carmody, Joshua Methner and Andrew Alexander. 

Nuguse ran in the 3000 meter race where he broke an 18-year-old collegiate record. He ran for a time of 7:38.13. The previous record of  7:38.59 was held by Arkansas’ Alistair Cragg, and had stood since 2004. 

This is now the second NCAA record that Nuguse holds. He holds records in the 1500m all-time standard and now the 3000m.

Teammate Dylan Jacobs placed seventeenth in the men’s 5000m with a time of 13:14.04, while Carmody crossed the finish line at 13:27.34. Methner took 27th with a time of 13:32.30 and Alexander finished with a time of 13:54.02.

Notre Dame continues competition next week when they host the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center.
