NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team is set to compete in the 2006 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships Thursday, Oct. 19 through Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Michigan State University. The draw features 11 of the nation’s top 125 singles players and nine of the country’s top 60 doubles teams.

No. 22 senior Catrina Thompson, No. 66 junior Brook Buck and No. 91 senior Christian Thompson are the highest ranked Irish singles players in the field. Christian and Catrina each advanced into the round of 16 in last year’s event and Catrina advanced into the semifinals before bowing out.

The Thompson twins did not compete in last season’s championship, but two other Notre Dame doubles squads reached the semifinals, including Buck and sophomore Kelcy Tefft. The No. 27 ranked duo reached the second round of the ITA All-American Championships earlier this year.

The rest of the Notre Dame squad will compete include freshman Kali Krisik, freshman Cosmina Ciobanu, freshman Colleen Rielley and sophomore Katie Potts.

The finalists and doubles champion will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at The Ohio State University.
