PRINCETON, N.J. – The Notre Dame women’s basketball, which reached the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 for the third time in four years this season, has been selected to participate in the 2000 Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge women’s basketball tournament next season it was announced today by The Gazelle Group.
Along with the Irish, the four-team field includes WNIT champion Wisconsin, Elite Eight finalist Georgia, and Oklahoma, another Sweet 16 participant. The two-day event will take place on November 22nd and 24th, 2000 at the Kohl Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Opening round match-ups and television coverage will be announced in the near future.
The 1999 Event — which featured tournament champion and eventual NCAA National Champion UConn along with Old Dominion, Kentucky and Clemson — raised over $80,000 for Coaches vs. Cancer.
Coaches vs. Cancer, a collaboration between the American Cancer Society, the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association is dedicated to supporting Hope, Progress and Answers in the war against cancer. Through the efforts of more than 500 basketball coaches and the nation’s largest voluntary health organization, more than 10 million dollars have been raised since 1994 to provide prevention, research, education and advocacy services in more than 3,400 local communities – the communities where we live.
