Notre Dame Will Play Virginia Tech At Home To Open ACC Season

Feb. 27, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — There can be no doubt that the Notre Dame men’s tennis team has had a tremendous start to the 2014 spring season. The Irish began the season 6-0-their best start since 2005-and then proceeded to take down two higher-ranked teams at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Notre Dame holds its own even against the toughest of opponents, like then-No. 1 Virginia and current No. 1 Ohio State, both of which only came to victory over the Irish in a dogfight.

No, it is without question that the Irish have come not only to compete in the 2014 season, but to win.

The next challenge for this team is nearing on the horizon, and it takes the form of the ACC season opener against Virginia Tech. The Irish will play the Hokies tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

“We are expecting a very tough match with Virginia Tech,” says head coach Ryan Sachire. “They are a talented team, who consistently plays with great passion and energy. This will be yet another extremely close contest, and our team will have to play with the same purpose and confidence that we have competed with over the past few weeks if we hope to be victorious.”

There will be very little rest for Notre Dame following Friday’s match, as the team will then turn around and travel to Charlottesville, Va., to rematch No. 10 Virginia.
