Notre Dame Well Represented At USA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa – Three current Notre Dame student-athletes competed at the 2010 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Drake University this past weekend, with two finishing in the top 10 of their respective event.

Rising sophomore Nevada Sorenson finished sixth in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles in 13.64 while improving her time in the finals by crossing in 13.52.

Second-year team members Ted Glasnow and Dean Odegard finished seventh and 13th, respectively, in the decathlon. Glasnow racked up 6,454 points while Odegard compiled 6,116 points.

Former Notre Dame track and field All-American Molly Huddle finished second in the 5,000 meters (15:30.89) at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Meanwhile, Mary Saxer and Patrick Smyth finished third in their events over the weekend.

Saxer achieved a lifetime best in the pole vault at 4.50m (14-9), while Smyth took third at 29:18.13 in the 10,000m run.

Current Irish volunteer coach Mark Hollis, who lives in Elkhart and competed collegiately at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill., won the men’s pole vault event at 5.6m (18-4.5).
