Shamrock Invitational – Live stats, results, scores

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame returns to the pool this weekend for men’s swimming and diving action as the Irish host Denver, Iowa and Missouri at the Rolfs Aquatic Center for the Shamrock Invitational (Jan. 29-30). The first of three sessions will begin Friday (Jan. 29) at 6:00 p.m. (ET). Saturday’s action will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the final session will start at 5:00 p.m. The event will be scored as a dual meet between each of the participating teams. Live stats will be available at UND.com.

Notre Dame (4-4) is receiving votes in the latest CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Top 25 standings along with Iowa and Missouri. Denver is sixth among mid-major Division I programs.

Three wins were added to the 2008-09 win total for Notre Dame as the Irish swept last season’s Shamrock Invite. Notre Dame picked up victories in four events over the final two sessions to secure the wins over Denver (190-180), Michigan State (232-138) and West Virginia (243-127). In fact, the Irish won the 400 free relay in 3:02.86 to finalize the victory over Denver in the meet’s final race.

“The team has been improving each week, and that’s what we’ve wanted lately,” Irish head coach Tim Welsh said. “We’re getting faster with each meet, and this is our final home competition of the season so it will reveal what we need to get done before the BIG EAST Championships. We’ll get to review all of the championship events in order and it will help us decide who will represent Notre Dame at the BIG EAST meet. Missouri, Iowa and Denver will provide great competition for us. It will be an intense three sessions.”

Heading into the weekend, MacKenzie LeBlanc ranks third among BIG EAST swimmers with a 1:48.03 in the 200 fly and sits fourth in the 500 free (4:31.14). John Lytle has been solid in the 50 free (4th – 20.52), 100 free (4th – 45.09) and 200 free (3rd – 1:39.48).

Efforts by Andrew Deters in the 1,650 (15:50.66) and Petar Petrovic in the 100 back (48.96) each rank fourth overall. Michael Sullivan is fourth in the 400 IM (3:57.94).
