NOTRE DAME – LSU SERIES HISTORY

The Irish and Tigers have met just once, but it was a memorable meeting. In front of a record setting 68,122 fans, LSU claimed an 87-64 win over Notre Dame – led by future NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal and Stanley Roberts. The record crowd was, at the time, an NCAA mark for a regular-season contest. The record stood for 13 seasons before 78,129 attended the Kentucky-Michigan State contest at Ford Field on Dec. 13, 2003.

A SEASON OF MILESTONES AHEAD FOR Mike Brey

Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey is poised to reach three key milestones in his coaching career this season.

  • Brey is eight wins away from becoming the all-time wins leader at Notre Dame (386 current, 393 is the record).
  • Brey is 14 wins away from 400 at Notre Dame, which would make him the 13th active coach to have 400 wins at his current school.
  • Brey is 15 wins away from 500 in his coaching career, on pace to become the 31st active coach to reach 500 career wins.

Should Brey reach the 500-win barrier, he will join Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Roy Williams, Greg Kampe, Tony Shaver, Tom Izzo, Fran Dunphy, Bob McKillop, Jay Wright and Mark Few as the only current coaches to win 500 or more games while coaching at just one or two schools.

NOTRE DAME – MAUI INVITATIONAL HISTORY

Notre Dame is making its third appearance in the Maui Invitational this season and boasts a 4-3 record on the island. The first trip to Hawaii occurred under then-head coach John MacLeod in 1993, while Mike Brey led the Irish to the tournament championship game in 2008. Notre Dame’s full Maui Invitational history:
