Here are Five Things to Know about the Notre Dame – Duke Game…

IRISH MEET DUKE IN A REMATCH OF THE 2017 ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (20-13, 8-10 ACC) continues its run in the ACC Championship with a matchup against No. 4 seed (and No. 5/4 national rank) Duke (25-6, 13-5) on Thursday, March 8, at 7 p.m. ET.

NOTRE DAME – DUKE SERIES HISTORY

Notre Dame and Duke will be meeting for the 31st time on Wednesday afternoon, the second time this season and in the third consecutive ACC tournament. The Blue Devils bested the Irish 75-69 in last season’s ACC Championship game – a contest the Irish led by three points when All-American Bonzie Colson sprained an ankle with 8:00 minutes remaining.

Duke claimed the regular-season victory over the Irish 88-66, a game Notre Dame played without the services of Bonzie Colson, Matt Farrell or D.J. Harvey. Notre Dame trailed by eight at half and cut the lead to six with just over 12 minutes remaining before the Blue Devils pulled away.

WINNINGEST CLASS AT NOTRE DAME

The 2017-18 senior class of Bonzie Colson, Matt Farrell, Martinas Geben, Matt Gregory and graduate student Austin Torres has set the mark as the all-time winningest senior class at Notre Dame.

The 2016-17 senior class of Steve Vasturia, V.J. Beachem and graduate student Patrick Mazza and the the 2012-13 group of Joey Brooks, Mike Broghammer, Jack Cooley and Scott Martin previously held the school record with 97 wins.

A SEASON OF MILESTONES CONTINUES FOR Mike Brey

Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey has reached three career milestones in his coaching career this season and is poised to reach another before the season ends.

Brey became the all-time men’s basketball coaching wins leader at Notre Dame (402 current – 394 was the record-breaking total) with an 88-58 victory over NC State on January 3, 2018.

Brey won his 400th game at Notre Dame against Pittsburgh on February 28, 2018, making him the 11th active coach to have 400 wins at his current school.

Brey won his 500th game in his career against Pittsburgh on March 6, 2018, to become the 23rd active Division 1 coach to reach 500 career wins.

Brey reach the 500-win barrier, he joins Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Roy Williams, Greg Kampe, Tony Shaver, Tom Izzo, Fran Dunphy, Bob McKillop, Jay Wright and Mark Few as the only current coaches to win 500 or more games while coaching at just one or two schools.

20-WINS TRADITION CONTINUES FOR NOTRE DAME

For the 14th time in 18 seasons and 11th time in the past 12 seasons, Notre Dame reached 20-win mark in 2017-18.

Those 14 seasons set a new school record for 20-win seasons at Notre Dame for Mike Brey, surpassing Digger Phelps, who posted 20 wins 13 times in his 20 years as head coach with the Irish.

BACK-TO-BACK IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT MVPS FOR FARRELL

Safe to say that senior guard Matt Farrell embraces the competition of in-season tournaments. The Bridgewater, N.J., native enjoyed his break out performances at the 2016 Legends Classic in the Barclays Center, earning tournament MVP honors.

He stepped up another level at the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational, leading the Irish through three victories – including a career-high 27 points against Chaminade and the play of the game in the rally over No. 6/6 Wichita State, stealing an in-bounds pass with less than a minute remaining and finding Bonzie Colson to cut the Shocker lead to one point.

In the past two in-season tournaments, Farrell is averaging 19.4 ppg, shooting .482 from 3FG and averaging 5.4 apg.
