NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES (VS. BYU)

TEAM NOTES

• Brian Kelly becomes the second coach ever to win at least eight games in each of his first four seasons at Notre Dame, joining only Dan Devine (1975-78).
• The 2013 seniors become the first to win four straight Senior Day games since the 2003 seniors.
• Brian Kelly is the first Notre Dame head coach to win his first four home finales since Dan Devine (1975-78).
• The Irish are now 20-4 in their last 24 games.
• The Irish are now 29-2 in its last 31 games when gaining 200 yards rushing. It is the third time this year that ND has rushed for at least 200 yards, joining Oklahoma and Navy.
• Notre Dame improves to 6-2 all-time against BYU with wins in each of the last three meetings.
• The Irish are now 32-7 since 1984 when coming off a scheduled regular-season bye week.
• Notre Dame did not trail today for the first time since the season-opener against Temple.
• The Irish marched 84 yards for a touchdown on their opening drive. It was Notre Dame’s 13th scoring drive of at least 80 yards this year. In 13 games last fall, Notre Dame accumulated 15 scoring drives of at least 80 yards.
• Notre Dame scored a touchdown on each of its first two drives for the first time since the season opener against Temple.
• Today’s game time temperature of 26 degrees makes it the coldest Notre Dame home game since Nov. 2, 1991 when the Irish shutout Navy, 38-0.
• This was the first game since Nov. 14, 1992 against Penn State where snow fell during the contest. The Irish are now 13-1-3 all-time in snow games and 9-1-1 at home. The lone loss was an 18-0 blasting by Indianapolis Artillery on Nov. 22, 1895. Grover Cleveland was the President at that time.
• Concessionaire Centerplate estimated that it sold 6,000 gallons of hot chocolate today at Notre Dame Stadium.
• Notre Dame scored first today for the third game in a row after scoring first just twice in 2013’s first eight games.
• The Irish have now had three different 100-yard rushers in a game this year (McDaniel today, George Atkinson III {148 yds} vs. Oklahoma and Tarean Folston {140} vs. Navy)
• In each of the last two home games, Notre Dame has had both a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver. Tarean Folston (140 rushing) and TJ Jones (111 receiving) reached those marks against the Midshipmen on Nov. 2 and Cam McDaniel (117 rushing) and DeVaris Daniels (107 receiving) duplicated the feat against BYU.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

• Cam McDaniel had his first career 100-yard rushing game today (117 yards – 4.9 per carry).
• Kyle Brindza’s three field goals today gives him 36 for his career, eclipsing the 34 of D.J. Fitzpatrick (2002-05) for fifth in school history.
• With his 51-yard field goal, Brindza now has a school record five career field goals of at least 50 yards.
• Tommy Rees’s 30-yard completion to TJ Jones in the first quarter pushed him over the 7,000 career passing yardage plateau (7,152). He is the fourth Irish quarterback to reach this milestone, joining Brady Quinn (11,762), Jimmy Clausen (8,148) and Ron Powlus (7,602).
• DaVaris Daniels had his third career 100-yard receiving game (117 yards) and his second of the season, along with Purdue (167 yards).
• With his 61-yard touchdown grab today, Daniels now has a catch of at least 20 yards in 13 of his 22 career games played.
• TJ Jones extended his school record streak of consecutive games with a reception to 38. He has made multiple catches in 34 of those contests, including today.
• Jones’ five receptions today gives him 170 in his career, matching Rhema McKnight (2002-06) for third in school history.
• Zack Martin made his 50th consecutive start today, matching the school record established by Sam Young from 2006-09.
• It was Martin’s 36th win as a starter moving him into sole possession of third place in school history. Luther Bradley (1973-77) holds the record at 39, followed by Ross Browner (1973-77) with 38.
• With his sack late in the fourth quarter, Stephon Tuitt now has 20 career sacks, which is fifth on the all-time list in Notre Dame history. He passed Renaldo Wynn who collected 19.5 sacks from 1993-96.
• Austin Collinsworth made his first career interception on the “Hail Mary” at the end of the first half.
• Jarron Jones registered his second blocked field goal of the season late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 10-point lead.
• Tarean Folston made his first career start today at running back. He picked up 11 yards on Notre Dame’s first play.
• Folston’s 43-yard run on the first play of the second half was a career long.
