Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey

On overall thoughts from the game…
“There’s no question, one thing Demetrius Jackson is doing is pressuring the ball so that offenses have to start out further, so then it gives guys that are contesting the next pass more confidence. We had Jerian chasing the next pass out, we had Vasturia chasing the 3rd pass out and so the offenses worked from further out against the deflections or you have guys who just put their head down and drive, we had some steals, we had some charges. Our positions on defense were excellent too. Steve Vasturia is a clinic defensively as far as position his stance reminds me of yours, you [Jordan Cornette] were one hell of a defender.”

On Zach Auguste
“The shots at the foul line continue to improve for him. He’s playing at a nice pace, he’s out there with some guys who really know how to pass, and he’s getting stuff, easy stuff. I thought he defended his body well on the rebounds and hitting the outlet. He’s playing confident and he’s slowed down this year, which helps.”

On Zach Auguste and Demetrius Jackson
“One of the things I wanted to accomplish this summer was Zach Auguste and Demetrius Jackson on our core, feeling like main guys. They started every game, we had them play with Vasturia, Grant, and Connaughton and they played well and have really grown to feel like main guys and they are keys to our season, no question.”

On Pat Connaughton’s 1,000 points…

“That’s amazing what a great man. He is a flat out class act, a solid guy, he’s the same every day and you know he’s been a heck of a captain for us this year. He leads this team, his voice is the strongest in there and I know he plays with that. To score 1,000 points in a college career you got to be pretty darn efficient.”

On his 400th career win…
“I was driving here today and I was remembering my first win against Washington College when I was at the University of Delaware in 1995. I have had, between the University of Delaware and Notre Dame, really really good players, they make me look good and I’ve had great assistant coaches wherever I’ve been and this coaching staff has been tremendous.”

Demetrius Jackson – Sophomore – Guard

On his performance…
“I didn’t shoot too well from the three point line today, I think I went 0 for 4. It’s important to keep working hard and comeback Sunday and have a better day shooting the ball. Wasn’t my shooting night, so I was just dishing to my players. They were playing that zone defense and the big guys did a really good job ducking in, allowing me to get a lot of assists. “

On tonight’s win…
“It’s a good win for us. A good way to start off the year and really should serve as a catapult going forward. Were going to keep moving forward, work extra hard in practice tomorrow, and be ready to come out and play well against Navy Saturday.”

On goals for the ACC…
“We want to establish an identity to start the season. We want to go out play as hard as we can, and have fun doing it. Doing this can allow us to really establish ourselves in the ACC moving forward.”

Pat Connaughton – Senior – Guard On getting over that 1,000 point milestone…
“I honestly wasn’t thinking about it to much. I try and focused on the team and didn’t have it in my head. It’s cool to join all the great players that are also part of the 1,000 point club but it’s important to move forward from here.”

On the team’s goals moving forward…
“We are ready to move forward to the next game. Obviously it was great to come out and play this well but it’s important to move forward. I think we got caught looking too far forward to the so called big games, and were not going to do that this year. We were focused on tonight’s game tonight and it’ll be a good game film for us to watch tomorrow, but then it’s on to the next game against Navy on Sunday.”

Jerian Grant – Senior – Guard

On Pat Connaughton
“He shoots threes and knocks them down. He can also go in there and grab ten rebounds. With him starting at the forward, a guy that can rebound like that we’re going to be really dangerous.”

On team’s defensive play…
“We got the stops we wanted, they shot a low field goal percentage, maybe we can cut down on a few turnovers, knock down some more free throws. But overall today was a good day.”

On key of season…
“Pressure. Our defense was really bad last year we struggled throughout the season. It’s something we focused on at the beginning of the season and I think we showed we’re a really good defensive team today.”

Zach Auguste – Junior – Guard On block vs. career scoring night…
“That’s probably a tie. I liked the blocked shot. I think I need to bring more of that to defense. Coach has lately been emphasizing weak side help so when I’m weak side help and I see him driving I’m just lining it up.”

On team’s defensive play…
“I think we played great together defensively. I think we were unselfish, both on the defensive and offensive end. Everybody was determined and focused and we crashed the boards as a team.”

On his scorer role…
“I don’t have any worries. I’m going out there, taking my time, and playing my game.”

Binghamton Head Coach Tommy Dempsey

On opening the season against a strong Notre Dame team…
“It was just a struggle. There’s no way to come out now and try to find positives right now. I just told the guys this is our starting point. It feels terrible, but it’s a thirty-game season. If this is where we are to start the year, then we certainly have to get a lot better. I believe that we will, but we got our bell rung tonight and we have to respond and get back to practice and get better. We weren’t ready for this moment, but we’ll grow from it.”

On how playing top teams helps early in the season…
“We got exposed and now we just have to pick ourselves up off the deck and just try to improve. We have another stiff test in front of us on Monday night (against Providence) and another opportunity to get this taste out of our mouth and feel better about our performance. It’s not necessarily about wins and losses when you’re playing these types of games. It’s about your performance and we don’t feel very good about our performance tonight.”
