Notre Dame Volleyball Travels To Ohio For First Road Trip Of Season

The Irish hit the road for the first time this season, as the squad travels to Ohio this weekend for the Bowling Green/Toledo Invitational. The Irish play VCU on Friday, September 1 at 11 a.m. and then face Bowling Green at 7 p.m. that evening.

Notre Dame then makes a quick jaunt to Toledo to face the Rockets on Saturday, September 2 at 7 p.m. before returning home.

NOTRE DAME VOLLEYBALL: BY THE NUMBERS

.096 – Notre Dame is holding the opposition to a hitting percentage of .096 through three matches. The Irish have held both Valparaiso (.037) and Rhode Island (.081) to percentages under .100 this season.

1 – Ryann DeJarld ranks first in the country in digs per set with an average of 7.91 per set through the first weekend of action. The junior recorded 20+ digs in all three matches at the Golden Dome Invitational en route to earning the tournament MVP. DeJarld recorded 38 digs in a four-set win over Valparaiso, which marks a Notre Dame record for digs in a four-set match.

2 – The Irish placed two student-athletes on the 2017 Preseason All-ACC Team in seniors Sam Fry and Caroline Holt.

3 – Notre Dame went 3-0 in last weekend’s Golden Dome Invitational to take the title. The Irish recorded wins over Valparaiso, Rhode Island and New Mexico State. Notre Dame has a combined record of 6-0 in the last two Golden Dome Invitationals.

3.14 – The Irish average 3.14 blocks per set in 2017, ranking first in the ACC for the statistical category. Notre Dame ranks 15th in the country for blocks per set. Sam Fry leads the Irish with an average of 1.73.

4 – The ACC coaches picked the Irish fourth in the annual preseason poll. The fourth-place selection is tied for the highest the program has achieved since joining the league in 2013.

12 – Notre Dame returns 12 letterwinners to the 2017 squad, including six seniors.

13 – The Irish are a combined 13-2 against this weekend’s opponents, going 9-2 against Bowling Green and 4-0 vs. Toledo. This will be the program’s first meeting against VCU.

20 – Sophomore Jemma Yeadon posted a career-high 20 kills in the win over New Mexico State. The 20 kills are the most by an Irish student-athlete this season. Yeadon leads Notre Dame with 4.12 kills per set.

21.55 – The Irish lead the conference and rank fifth in the country in digs per set with an average of 21.55.

354 – Senior Sam Fry has 354 career blocks, setting the the Notre Dame record for career blocks over the weekend, passing Jeni Houser ’15 (345). The record dates back to 2008 when the NCAA changed the scoring to 25-point sets.

611 – Jim McLaughlin has 611 victories at the collegiate level (includes men’s and women’s volleyball). McLaughlin is the only coach in NCAA history with a national championship on both the men’s and women’s sides.
