Kellie Sciacca will join the Irish for the 2007 season as an incoming freshman

Notre Dame Volleyball Inks Sciacca To A National Letter Of Intent

Nov. 20, 2006

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The University of Notre Dame volleyball team has announced the signing of Kellie Sciacca (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) to a national letter of intent to enroll at Notre Dame and play volleyball for head coach Debbie Brown in 2007-08.

Sciacca, a middle blocker, is ranked 22nd among the top 100 Senior Aces according to PrepVolleyball.com. According to the website: “She is extremely talented off of one foot and can put the ball down inside the 10-foot line on a regular basis. She has the ability to play a decent back row for a tall kid. Sciacca is younger than her peers, so expect more physical maturity in the future.”

The Colorado native has been an All-Conference and All-State selection in each of the last two years at Lewis-Palmer. In her senior campaign, she was named a captain and averaged a team-best 3.42 blocks per game, after leading the team in total blocks (156) as a junior. She also has led the team in hitting percentage in each of the last three seasons and was an Academic All-State First Team selection this past season at Lewis-Palmer.

As a member of the Colorado Juniors Club Volleyball Team each of the last four years, Sciacca has aided the team to four consecutive regional championships and a national ranking as high as third. During the 2006 club season, the incoming freshman was named a Rocky Mountain Region All-Star. Her club team also took third place at the Las Vegas Invitational, as Sciacca was named to the PrepVolleyball.com’s Dream Team for her play in the tournament. The same Colorado club team also placed ninth at the Junior Olympics in the Open Division in 2005-06.

“I’m very excited to welcome Kellie to the Notre Dame volleyball family,” said Coach Brown. “She is a talented middle blocker and a dynamic attacker. Kellie has quick feet, a good jump and a powerful arm. She will give us needed depth at the middle position and will challenge for immediate playing time.”

Sciacca will be the fourth Colorado native to play for the Irish, but the first since a pair were on the roster in 1988 (Joanna Bruno and Chris Rosso).
