Notre Dame Travels to Champaign For Mid-Week Match

Feb. 4, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team has not started a spring season 6-0 since 2005, making 2014 the strongest start in nearly a decade.

The Irish, now ranked 16th in the country, look to continue their resilient performance as they travel to Champaign, Ill., for tomorrow’s match against the 22nd-ranked Illini.

“Our players and coaches are really excited about the opportunity to compete against a great Illinois team on Wednesday night,” says head coach Ryan Sachire. “Our group has played in three consecutive matches that have been decided by the last match on the court, and we expect this to be another close contest against an elite opponent.”

Illinois is 2-2 in their season, having beaten Clemson and Michigan at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend before falling to both Duke and UNC on the road. Notre Dame is 24-22 against Illinois in the teams’ all-time series.

The match gets underway tomorrow at 7 p.m. (ET). Fans can find results after the match here on UND.com.
