Notre Dame Track And Field Is Relay Ready

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams are set for the 102nd Drake Relays Thursday at the Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, and the 45th annual Gina Relays Friday at The Ken Herrick Outdoor Track & Field Complex in Hillsdale, Mich.

The Drake Relays begins with the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon Wednesday and continues through Thursday.

There are six members from the women’s team who will compete along with 1,295 female student-athletes from 128 university-college teams, while the Irish men’s team have 15 men’s members among the 1,381 competitors from 128 university and college squads.

The 45th annual Gina Relays is set to begin with the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon Thursday and continue through Friday with the field events beginning on Friday. The men’s and women’s hammer throw leads off the field events at noon and the women’s 400-meter hurdles begins at 4:00 p.m. At 11:00 p.m. is the Ryan Shay 10,000-meter run, which honors former Notre Dame standout Ryan Shay. Shay concluded his career with the Irish as a nine-time All-American, twice for cross country and six times between indoor and outdoor track. Additionally, Shay earned second-team Academic All-American honors and was an eight-time (four in cross country and four in track and field) monogram winner.
